As the first rock critic for the Washington Post, Tom spent 15 years as a journalist before turning his attention to creating and launching technology start-ups. Over the last two decades, he has focused on creating companies that strive to create new business opportunities in their respective markets. In 1986, Tom took public AXLON, a high-tech toy company. Tom then founded Isix, another technology-driven entertainment company that was acquired by Hasbro. In addition, Tom cofounded Digital Pictures, the first company to create full-motion video games, and Garageband, one of the first online digital record labels. He coauthored a number of technology patents while at both companies.
Tom attended the NYU School of Film & Television, and graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University.
Amanda's 15 years in the technology industry cover a wide range of media related enterprises. As VP of Research for Antics Online, she provided research and strategic consulting to companies such a Capcom, PayPal, and Sun Microsystems. She cofounded Garageband Records, which uses the Internet community to test-market new music. She was head of research for Netscape's Internet initiatives and vice president of development for Digital Pictures, a developer of full motion video games. Amanda's journey of understanding and using the way people process information began with the Ph.D. in linguistics she earned from Harvard University. She is the coauthor of several patents for information gathering technology and recently wrote "The Identity Theft Protection Guide," a book about information use in the digital age—published in 2004 by St. Martin's Press.
Shelly is a financial executive with extensive operational and administrative experience in media and communications. He served as Senior Vice President, Finance and Business Development for the Television Group of Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. During his time there, the subscriber base doubled to nearly 80 million homes making the channel the fastest growing in the industry. He was Senior Vice President, Finance for ABC Entertainment Television Group, and prior to that, Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of TVN Entertainment a media and technology company.
During eight years at Sony Pictures Entertainment he advanced to Executive Vice President Finance of the worldwide motion picture group. Before that, he held various finance and accounting positions in both private and public companies. He began his career at the public accounting firm of Ernst & Young.
Shelly holds a B.S. in Accounting, Cum Laude from City University of New York and N.Y.S. Society of CPA’s Award of Honor.
Avery Wang - Chief Scientist
With over 12 years of experience in multimedia digital signal processing
(DSP) algorithm design, Avery is the principal inventor of the recognition
algorithm, and has been granted eight patents. He studied as a Fulbright
Scholar in Germany and holds a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and three
other degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from Stanford
University, where he studied at the Center for Computer Research in Music
and Acoustics (CCRMA).
Steve has 20 years of experience negotiating and managing relationships with executive level clients across the network, agency and advertiser verticals. During his career Steve has held senior level sales and management positions at Nielsen Media Research, TNS Media Intelligence and Experian Research Services. Steve was the Executive VP/Director of Sales at IAG Research, where he was a member of IAG's 2001 Launch Team and served on their Executive Committee. Leading IAG's go-to-market sales strategy, he played an instrumental role in IAG's growth from an eight employee startup in 2001 to a more than 200 employee ad effectiveness measurement company in 2007.
Based in New York, Steve is a graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He is a member of the Advertising Research Foundation, and the Radio & Television Research Council.
As a co-founder of Traverse Networks, Mark was responsible for the design and implementation of the company’s service delivery platform. Traverse Networks was acquired by Avaya in 2006. Mark co-founded and was the chief technology officer of eVoice, where he oversaw the design and development of the company’s national voicemail service. eVoice was acquired by AOL in 2001. Mark co-founded WalkSoftly, an Internet security and privacy company, which was acquired by CyberMedia in 1997.
Mark has a BS in Electrical Engineering, Suma Cum Laude, from Cal Poly at Pomona, and a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
Wendy is a veteran business executive with 17 years of operating experience in multiple companies (Epsilon Data Management, Cohn & Wells advertising agency). In addition, she spent eight years investing in early stage companies through Lynch Enterprises, LLC.
In 1990, Wendy founded, ran and then successfully sold her company, MarketSmart, Inc., a database marketing company designed to track and evaluate advertising results.
Wendy holds degrees from Stanford University with Honors and Harvard Business School.
